Tribal Membership

Membership Requirements

You may apply without restriction if you are one of the following:

• A lineal descendant (children, grandchildren, etc) of a tribal member. Please complete a basic application and provide enough documentation to prove your relationship to the tribal member.
• Descendant of a Confederate Cherokee (list of soldiers in Watie’s Cherokee Braves Unit of the Civil War)
• Descendant of a mixed blood Scuffletown resident
• Descendant of a Cherokee who left on the Fort Smith, Arkansas wagons headed East.
• Maggofin County, Kentucky Quadrangle Band descendant.

Not one of the above but have Cherokee blood?

• You may still apply if you live in Kentucky or one its bordering states
• Request a waiver.  If a waiver is requested, you agree to attend at least one gathering every two years to remain in good standing.

Ready to Apply?

You will need to submit the following:

1. Application with all applicable genealogy and supporting documents.
2. Law Enforcement Record Check from your County or State.
3. Non-refundable processing fee of $20.00. The fee will include one membership card if approved and helps defray costs associated with the application process. The application packet can be requested HERE.
